District academic leaders presented an overview of a revamped professional learning plan the committee said was developed from teacher and ESP feedback.
The plan organizes staff development into four multi-year tracks—project-based and deeper learning; inclusive and culturally responsive practices; grading and assessment; and AI for educators—with the intent teachers can cycle through tracks over several years. The program will include teacher-led learning days, summer book clubs aligned to tracks, and a published year-at-a-glance schedule so staff know the objectives and evidence of practice expected for each professional learning day.
Presenters said the district also created ESP-specific professional development aligned to teacher work, clarified course-approval rubrics for PDPs and consolidated resources for license renewal and professional learning approvals. Committee members commended the clarity of the plan and suggested better communication to families about the purpose of professional development days so parents understand how the days benefit students.
No vote was required for the presentation; the plan will be implemented in the upcoming school year with additional details shared to staff and committees.
