The Salem Township Planning Commission on Sept. 4 unanimously approved advertising a special meeting during the first two weeks of October to discuss proposed amendments to the township’s Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance (SALDO). Commissioners agreed to set the exact date by consensus of Planning Commission members, and the advertisement will be placed 7–10 days before the meeting; the minutes state the revision will be available at that time.
During the discussion resident John Write asked whether the SALDO revision materials would be distributed to the public for review before the special meeting. The minutes record: "Resident John Write asked if any materials of the revised SALDO will be distributed to the public for review prior to the meeting." The commission responded that the advertisement will be placed 7–10 days prior and that the revision will be available at that time.
Why this matters: Amendments to the SALDO affect township procedures for subdivisions, land development reviews and plan requirements; public notice and availability of revision materials affect stakeholders’ ability to review changes before a dedicated meeting.
Procedural outcome: Planning Commission member Paul Holleran moved and Chair Connie Mattei seconded to advertise the special meeting; both voted in favor. The commission also confirmed the next regular meeting date of Oct. 2, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., contingent on a posted agenda.
Next steps: The commission will place the public advertisement 7–10 days before the special meeting and make the proposed SALDO revision available for review at that time.
