Thomaston trustees direct staff to get cost estimates for signage, building repairs and windows

At a review of the 2022 workshop 'Thoughts and Ideas,' trustees prioritized replacing an antiquated cemetery computer database that limits recordkeeping. On signage, members proposed 8‑foot posts with vertical lettering on two sides in the style of former town street signs; trustees discussed using a router to cut lettering and asked Sandy Moore to contact the prison about producing the routed lettering. Peggy McCrea said she would ask Pete Lammert about sourcing PVC posts as an alternative to pressure‑treated wood; trustees requested cost estimates and status reports at the next meeting.
Trustees also discussed repairing the green building — including roof work, a door frame and threshold replacement, restoration of spalled cinderblocks and repainting — rather than replacing it, and noted the white building needs six new windows, suggesting starting with the three front windows. They also noted the cemetery currently has a single water source and that an additional source should be added. Sexton Pete Lammert said he has 43 trees available and will coordinate with Public Works to dig holes for 23 of them.
Rod Grindell moved and Ron Gamage seconded a motion to obtain prices for the avenue signs, green building repairs and the six window replacements; the motion passed 6–0. Trustees emphasized completing any chosen projects before the budget season concludes and reminded that expenditures must be submitted prior to the end of the fiscal year in June.
The trustees did not adopt specific contracts or a procurement schedule at the meeting; they voted only to gather estimates and return with costs for further action.
