Thomaston trustees agree repaired cemetery sign must return to original location, confirm plans for avenue posts

The Thomaston Cemetery Board of Trustees voted to reinstall a repaired cemetery sign in its original location and discussed related site improvements at its Jan. 22 meeting. Chairman Ryan Fitzpatrick presented the repaired sign and trustees agreed it must go back where the previous sign stood — southeast of the entrance to the maintenance building on the north side of the lane — to adhere to the town ordinance.
Pete Lammert told the board he would like a more detailed sign produced in the future; the trustees also discussed illumination and accessibility. Will Eustis suggested adding a solar light to illuminate the sign. Will said he will speak with Dean about helping to install the repaired sign, and Fitzpatrick said he will check with Joanne (town staff) on the procedure for adding new signage, including a potential sign on Dwight Street for east-side access.
On related grounds maintenance, trustees confirmed plans for avenue posts. Lammert said he will purchase 22 posts, recommended an 8-foot post with approximately 2 feet set in the ground, and proposed siting them about 10 feet from the beginning of each lane to reduce damage from vehicles backing up. Will and Ron Gamage agreed to assist with transport to the prison showroom. The minutes note that the motion to purchase the posts was approved at a prior meeting; Jan. 22 discussion addressed delivery and placement logistics.
The board also noted Ryan Fitzpatrick has not yet received an acknowledgement of the cemetery’s MOCA membership; Trustee Sue Christensen said an acknowledgement is not always provided by that organization.
The meeting record shows the board took a procedural step on a separate item: on a motion by Fitzpatrick the board voted 7–0 to take the “Breen amendment” out of order; the transcript does not specify details of that amendment or subsequent action on it.
