Tremont Select Board adopts updated assistance appendices, approves contracts and equipment purchases

The Tremont Select Board met on Oct. 7, 2024, and approved a series of updates, contracts and purchases aimed at maintaining town operations and infrastructure. Select Board Chair Jamie Thurlow called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Harvey Kelley Meeting Room.
The board opened and closed a public hearing on proposed repeals and replacements of Appendices A–H of the town’s General Assistance Ordinance with September 2024 versions prepared by the Maine Municipal Association; with no public comment, the board then adopted the annual amendment by a motion made by Select Board member McKenzie Jewett and seconded by Select Board member Eric Eaton. The board recorded the approval of the minutes of Sept. 16, 2024 (vote 4–0–1; Jewett abstained) and approved FY25 Warrants #30–#34, covering payments of $5,284.30; $14,875.69; $14,641.50; $4,949.61; and $47,874.54, respectively. The warrants motion passed unanimously.
On municipal fees, the board adopted wharf use fees for Sept. 1, 2024 through Aug. 31, 2025 as amended (motion by Eaton; second by Jewett). In infrastructure contracting, the board voted unanimously to continue soliciting bids for Seal Cove Road construction and return with results at a future meeting.
The board approved three paving-related contracts with Rings Paving: work at the Bernard Boat Ramp for $6,850; resurfacing of the triangle at the Town Office for $6,978, to be paid with ARPA funds; and Clark Point Road culvert work for $6,300 to be paid from the Road Improvement Reserve. All three motions passed unanimously.
On fuel procurement, the board voted unanimously to award the 2024–2025 heating-oil contract to Coastal Energy at $2.48 per gallon.
The board also handled vehicle and equipment needs. It authorized the town manager to purchase a used sander for Truck 1 at a cost of $7,000 (motion by Eric Eaton, seconded by Kevin Buck) and separately authorized purchase of a 2024 Ram 5500 from Quirk for $69,000, using the Town Truck Reserve (motion by Kevin Buck, seconded by McKenzie Jewett); both motions passed unanimously.
Other business included authorizing the Town Manager to close the Town Office business lobby on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, because staff will be covering the election in the Harvey Kelley Room (motion passed unanimously) and confirming the next regular meeting for Monday, Oct. 21, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
Town Manager Jesse Dunbar gave a verbal report summarizing town employees’ activities since the last meeting.
