Upton to honor firefighter for role in arson case; new town manager set to begin March 2

Interim Town Manager Dennis Westgate told the Select Board on Feb. 17 that the Upton Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office will host an event on Feb. 18 at 10:00 AM to recognize efforts that led to the capture of a suspect tied to multiple arson incidents in Upton and nearby Milford.
Westgate said Firefighter Matt Kerr and his wife, Adrianna, will be honored for their "critical role" in the investigative effort. The ceremony will include representatives from the State Fire Marshal's Office and Upton Fire & EMS.
Westgate also announced that Kristen Rubin will begin her role as Upton Town Manager on Monday, March 2; he confirmed his tenure as interim town manager will end Sunday, March 1. Westgate noted Rubin arranged an early departure from her current position in Berlin to assist with the town budget process prior to her start date.
The board accepted these updates as part of the Town Manager report. The recognition event and manager transition carry immediate operational implications for the fire department and town administration ahead of the budget calendar.
