Advisory board creates new Peak Energy Demand Reduction working group to focus on integrated gas and electric solutions

The Energy Advisory Board voted to sunset the Decarbonizing the Peak and Financing the Transition working groups and approved formation of a new Peak Energy Demand Reduction working group charged with developing integrated systemwide and locational strategies to reduce peak gas and electric demand.
Staff described the charter: the new group will identify and prioritize strategies that avoid future distribution and supply infrastructure spend, assess systemwide and location-specific measures (including targeted pilots), coordinate with ISO New England and existing technical working groups, and ensure equity and workforce considerations are integrated into recommendations.
Participants recommended the new group's priorities include: coordinating with existing forums to avoid duplication; conducting granular pilots in constrained nodes; engaging large end users (higher-education institutions, hospitals) for practicable demand-reduction plans; analyzing workforce needs to implement projects; and producing public-facing outreach materials in multiple languages to support equity and engagement.
The board approved the charter and the sunset of the prior FOGs; staff said feedback from today's breakout discussions will be incorporated and a revised charter will be circulated if substantive changes are required.
