Committee approves softball dugout imagery after booster support noted

The Foxborough School Committee on June 10 approved a proposal allowing the high school softball team to use Native American imagery in a dugout paint job, after members discussed community attachment to the symbol and whether the team and boosters had signed off on the art. A motion to approve the design passed by voice vote.

A committee member who expressed concern said she was "a little nervous about the Native American imagery" but acknowledged the symbol "is within the guidelines of what is considered acceptable" and asked that the team and its boosters formally approve the final image. Another committee member said boosters and some players were already in support of the proposal.

Committee members moved and seconded the measure and recorded the vote as 4–0 in favor. The committee did not adopt any additional restrictions on installation but emphasized the preference that the softball team and boosters endorse the final artwork and that those paying for the paint understand community sensitivities.

The motion was procedural and limited to approving the dugout paint job as presented; no changes to district policy or mascots were proposed during the meeting. The committee did not receive public comment on the item at the meeting.
