Council approves Axon quote after police chief says equipment outdated and unserviceable

The Rock Springs City Council on Aug. 20 approved a quote from Axon Enterprise, Inc. (Resolution 2024-123) to update police equipment.
Police Chief Bill Erspamer told the council that most of the department’s current tasers are two to three years old, are outdated and can no longer be serviced. He said the department seeks uniform equipment so officers do not have to be trained on different models.
Councilor Randy Hanson moved to approve the Axon quote and Councilor Jeannie Demas seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The resolution authorized the mayor and city clerk to execute the quote on behalf of the city. The council did not record an on-the-record cost breakdown during the reading beyond the motion to accept the quote.
