EAC begins scoping Rt. 30 pollinator corridor, eyes county grants and nursery partnerships

At the April 14 meeting, Secretary Kristin Dormuth raised an initial plan to create a pollinator corridor along Route 30 and said the Chester County Conservation District may offer grants to support planting native species. She will work with Township Liaison John Holback to identify candidate areas for conversion to native pollinator habitat.
Members discussed a phased approach. Ellen Covner suggested a second phase that would coordinate with local garden nurseries on Paoli Pike to scale plantings and sourcing. The council reviewed three external resources for technical and seed support — the Xerces Society Pollinator Habitat Kit Program, Wild Ones’ Seeds for Education, and the Bee and Butterfly Habitat Fund’s Seed A Legacy program — and noted program differences, including site preparation requirements and eligible project sizes.
The council did not adopt a formal plan or commit capital at this meeting; members directed staff and volunteers to investigate grant availability and potential sites and to return recommendations to a future meeting.
