Robbins trustees discuss public-safety staffing, ambulance repairs and snow removal afterboard denies KNM contract

Trustee Tiffany S. Robinson updated the board on multiple public-safety and operations items at the Jan. 11 meeting, reporting progress on hiring and maintenance and flagging winter operations needs.
Robinson said D.C. Malley will obtain a quote from Walsh for ambulance repairs and that Engineer Jones is examining a fire-prevention program. Robinson said D.C. Malley has interviewed seven candidates for firefighter positions and Chief Sheppard has interviewed two lateral police officers. She reported that three new recruits started work the day before the meeting and that nine more recruits are scheduled to begin in September.
Public works matters included missing or knocked-down street and stop signs that the department plans to address. Trustee Michael Collier Sr. said the village urgently needs assistance with snow removal; he said the village received 40 tons of salt from the county and expects another 100 tons to arrive and thanked Commissioner Sims for arranging the additional supply.
A proposed contractual agreement with KNM Ventures for seasonal snow and ice removal was put to a board vote and failed. The mayor recommended the item be sent to the public works committee for further review and Trustee Collier will arrange that meeting.
