West Union’s Village Council voted unanimously April 28 to adopt a resolution supporting completion of a Roadway Safety Action Plan and pursuing a Safe Streets and Roads for All grant from the Federal Highway Administration.
Mayor Jason Buda told council the resolution is intended to finalize the action plan so the village can apply for grant funding next year. The vote on Resolution 2026-13 was recorded as all yea.
The resolution endorses the village’s participation in the Safe Streets process and positions staff and consultants to complete the roadway safety plan scheduled to accompany future grant applications. Danielle Steinhauser of CT Consultants/Verdantas told council the Safe Streets draft plan was distributed to the steering committee and Verdantas will review concepts for an SR 41 walkway extension with village officials.
The adoption creates no immediate funding commitment by the village; it formally supports preparing the safety plan and applying for federal competitive grant programs. Council members said they expect further public review and consultant-led outreach as the plan is finalized.
Next steps: Verdantas will continue steering-committee review of the Safe Streets draft plan and the village may move forward with a formal grant application when the action plan is complete.
