Smyth County BZA keeps officers, adopts 2018 calendar and operating procedures

The Smyth County Board of Zoning Appeals met January 9, 2018, and made routine organizational decisions for the calendar year.
Staff member Clegg Williams was appointed temporary chair for the January session. John Saunders moved to keep the existing officers in their positions for 2018; that motion was seconded by John DeBusk III and the minutes record that it carried unanimously. The minutes list John Saunders to serve as chairman, Newell Johnson as vice chairman and John DeBusk III as secretary for calendar year 2018. After the election, Williams turned the meeting over to Saunders.
The board set its 2018 meeting calendar to convene on the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. when an application is filed; the minutes note that if no applications are filed the next meeting would be held in January 2019. The board also reviewed and adopted its 2018 Operating Procedures by unanimous vote.
The January meeting was brief: the minutes show the meeting was called to order at about 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at approximately 5:35 p.m.
