Smyth County building code appeals board elects officers, adopts by-laws

The Smyth County Local Board of Building Code Appeals elected Cameron Wolfe Jr. chairman for 2021 at a meeting on Jan. 5, 2021, after Clegg Williams served as temporary chair for the officer elections. Brian Reynolds nominated Wolfe; Jim May seconded the nomination and the board recorded the vote with three yeas (Reynolds, Huber, May), zero nays, one abstention and one member absent.
The board also elected Bill Huber as vice chairman and Brian Reynolds as secretary in votes that recorded three yeas and one abstention in each case. All officer nominations were moved and seconded on the floor.
The board adopted the minutes of Jan. 7, 2020 and approved its by-laws, each by a 4-0 roll call with one member absent. Members agreed to meet the first Tuesday of each month as needed; if no applications are received in 2021 the board scheduled a meeting for Jan. 4, 2022, at 6:00 p.m.
Clegg Williams, a staff member in the Building and Zoning Department, opened the meeting, read procedures for electronically participating members and presided as temporary chair during the officer elections. The meeting adjourned at about 6:10 p.m. after a motion by Jim May and a second by Brian Reynolds.
No substantive appeals or hearings were on the Jan. 5 agenda; the meeting consisted of organization and routine procedural business.
