Castine to study solar options at transfer station; town manager outlines phased plan

Castine will study potential solar development at the town transfer station, Town Manager Shawn Blodgett said at the Selectboard meeting on July 15.
Blodgett said he met with Hudson Energy Law and engineers to review options and that the town will evaluate multiple approaches before deciding how to proceed. "It will be an interesting project and I am happy the Town is pursuing," Blodgett said. He described a two-phase process: Phase I to determine scope and produce a request for proposals, and Phase II to select contractors.
A member of the public, Julie Bohan, asked what other uses might be possible for the additional land at the transfer station; Blodgett responded it is too early to consider alternatives until the consultants' report is complete. The Selectboard did not take formal action on the project at the July 15 meeting; staff will return with study findings and recommendations in a later meeting.
