Castine Selectboard approves FY25 sewer budget, 1.5% rate increase and routine warrants

The Castine Selectboard approved routine financial warrants and budget measures at its June 17 meeting, including a $575,974 FY25 sewer budget and a 1.5% sewer rate increase effective July 1, 2024.
The board approved the General Fund warrant for $89,818.06 and a Water Fund warrant for $14,607.57. Selectboard votes on both warrants were unanimous among members present (3-0). The board also approved prior meeting minutes for May 20 and June 3, 2024.
On utilities, the board adopted the Utility Board's FY25 sewer budget of $575,974, a $2,380 increase from the prior year. The board voted 3-0 to approve a sewer rate adjustment that will take effect July 1, 2024. Chair Gordon MacArthur read the new structure: a quarterly minimum charge of $157.55 (covers up to 800 cubic feet) with an overage charge of $28.30 per 100 cubic feet; the seasonal minimum is $630.20 (up to 800 cubic feet) with the same overage rate.
Several community event requests were approved during the same session. The Selectboard authorized the Wilson Museum's special-event MVU permit for Aug. 24, 2024; also approved were use of Fort George and the Backshore for the REC Committee's "Summer Slam Wednesday" series and a faculty/staff BBQ request from Maine Maritime Academy for July 24 (rain date July 25). Because two Selectboard members are volunteers with the Castine Touring Company, the board delegated authority to the Town Manager to approve a reception for the Touring Company's new club car "Sally" on June 23.
All motions described above were proposed and seconded by named Selectboard members on the record; where votes were recorded the tally was 3-0. No motion to reconsider or amend the sewer budget or rates occurred during the meeting.
