Austintown schedules festival, parade and fireworks for Fourth of July

Jim Davis, organizer of Austintown’s Fourth of July events, outlined a multi-day slate of family activities and concluded with a brief memorial to Lisa Oles.
"When decisions get tough, stick to your heart," Davis said as he described festivities beginning Sunday, June 29, at Hollywood Gaming, with inflatables, pony rides, a petting zoo and costumed characters. Live music acts listed by organizers include Relapse, 80’s Proof and Disco Inferno; Greenwood Chevy will host an autograph tent featuring Len Barker, Bob Golec, Jeff Reed and Dwayne Woodruff. Fireworks are scheduled for 10:00 p.m.; organizers said they are hoping for about 10,000 people in attendance.
Matt Roth, who detailed parade logistics, said the 47th annual Fourth of July parade will begin at noon on July 4. He named Chris Wetzel and their caregiver the grand marshals and said about 50 floats have signed up. Roth thanked the Austintown Police and Fire departments for their continued participation.
The board did not take a formal vote on the event schedule during the meeting; park and safety staff will continue to coordinate operations and crowd management ahead of the holiday.
