Resident proposes home that may require zoning variance; county engineer to review

During public participation at the Aug. 26 Vanlue council meeting, resident Kristi Miller said she would like to build a house on land between neighbors Angie Wehrle and Drew Bostic. Administrator Leo Hendricks said he met with the Hancock Regional Planning Commission director and the current zoning inspector and that county review of lot splits and frontage requirements is under way.
Hendricks said the proposed building lot lies behind an existing barn that would remain and that options discussed include splitting the barn lot and combining other parcels. The administrator said water and sewer service would have to be connected and that the matter will proceed through the Vanlue Planning Commission and the Board of Zoning Appeals as required if a variance is necessary.
Hancock Regional Planning Commission staff reportedly offered several workable options given the property complexity; Hendricks and members of the public expect resurveying and recording of parcels if the proposal moves forward. No formal application or variance decision was recorded at the meeting.
