Select Board hears code-enforcement report, refers municipal waste contract to joint meeting

Castle Hill's code enforcement officer told the Select Board on Sept. 17 that building permit activity has declined in 2025 and staff will follow up on two properties, including 340 Dudley Road and 287 Turner.
Aaron Whitaker, the town's code enforcement officer, presented the update and said the town will reach out to the owner of 340 Dudley Road to encourage cleanup and that 287 Turner requires further conversations with its owner. The assessor agent later presented an abatement request for the parcel at 340 Dudley Road, which the board approved.
Board members also discussed whether the town should contract with a single local waste hauler for all residents to improve cost-effectiveness. The board chose to add that discussion to a Joint Select Board meeting scheduled for Sept. 23, 2025, at 6:00 PM for more detailed review and possible action.
Town Manager Sandra Fournier provided an update on the Regional Summit collaboration and listed the board's upcoming meeting dates. Chair Shari Cheney adjourned the meeting at 7:45 PM.
What happens next: staff will pursue outreach to property owners identified by the code officer; municipal waste collection options will be reviewed at the joint meeting on Sept. 23.
