Pleasantville Police Chief Garver briefed the council on Feb. 13 about recent calls for service, arrests and staffing plans.
The chief said the department logged more than 100 calls year-to-date and described a recent domestic incident that resulted in both parties being arrested after officers found injuries and a chaotic scene. He said officers also arrested a frequent 911 caller who repeatedly tied up dispatch and had many prior court appearances.
Chief Garver reported two additional officer candidates seeking auxiliary or part-time work; the plan is to schedule part-time shifts (about 12 hours per week) concentrated on higher-call nights such as Friday and Saturday to increase visible patrols as staff complete training.
The chief and council discussed budget constraints and the village’s need to move reimbursed or donated policing expenses off private ledgers and onto the municipal budget to reflect the true cost of operating the department.
Next steps: the council will continue budget discussions for the police account and staff will bring hiring and training updates as candidates are onboarded.
