Council trims rental and pool fees, readies festival mini-grant and outreach for lifeguard hiring

Council members on Feb. 13 approved a package of lower rental and pool fees intended to encourage more local use of village facilities after the pool’s closure last year.
The administration proposed eliminating out-of-town differentials and cutting shelter-house and community-center rental rates by roughly half in some cases; daily pool admission and family pass pricing were also reduced. The intention, staff said, is to attract more users and help cover operating costs.
The council also authorized the festival committee’s creation of an annual $3,000 mini-grant program, funded from festival proceeds. Applicants will apply March 1–June 30 and grants will be reimbursable; the festival committee will award recipients at the festival and the council will complete official payment approvals afterward. Committee members said volunteer commitments and local impact will be weighted in awards.
On staffing, one person applied for the pool manager position and lifeguard recruitment will intensify about a month before opening because many certifications expired during the previous year’s closure. A former pool manager offered to teach water-aerobics in exchange for a family pass; staff said such in-kind arrangements may be acceptable.
Next steps: staff will finalize hiring, open the lifeguard recruitment window, and the festival committee will publish the mini-grant application for the 2025 cycle.
