Santa Clara County probation officials told supervisors their evaluation of a cognitive behavioral intervention (CBI) program for intimate partner violence found participation — and particularly program completion — was associated with lower rearrest and recidivism compared with clients who did not participate.
Melissa Childers, a manager at the Adult Probation Department, summarized three slides that staff said capture the evaluation’s key findings: participating clients had lower arrest and recidivism rates, graduates showed the greatest reductions, and both low‑dosage (16 sessions) and high‑dosage (52 sessions) tracks generated benefits. Childers noted the program uses curricula aligned with the University of Cincinnati Correctional Institute and that fidelity monitoring is in place.
Eric Lopez, the probation intimate partner violence program manager, described program design and training improvements, and staff said the statewide pilot has been extended through 2027 and expanded to additional counties. Supervisors asked about cultural competence and language access; probation said multiple providers, language options and accommodations for learning disabilities are part of current delivery and that future contracts will emphasize quarterly impact summaries and fidelity.
The committee voted to receive the report.
