The Fremont Business Improvement District board voted April 21, 2026, at the Fremont Art Association to sponsor JCF Days for $2,500 and to reject two other sponsorship proposals, saying sponsorships should broadly benefit the downtown area rather than a single business.
Howard Krasne, a board member, moved to consider a sponsorship application for 505 Brewery; J.J. Bixby seconded the motion. The motion failed on a recorded vote of 0–7, with board members saying they were unwilling to direct sponsorship funds to a single private business rather than a downtown-wide benefit. A separate motion on a Color the Core sponsorship was recorded as failing by a 2–6 vote.
Dan Gillis moved to sponsor JCF Days for $2,500; J.J. Bixby seconded. That motion carried 7–0. The minutes do not specify which line item or budget the $2,500 will come from and list no follow-up assignment to staff for procurement or payment.
The board’s voting record on sponsorships followed an earlier procedural item: the minutes of the March 17, 2026 meeting were approved after a motion by Howard Krasne and a second from J.J. Bixby; the minutes approval carried 7–0.
No persons from the public were recorded speaking in opposition during the sponsorship discussion. The board did not record additional conditions on the JCF Days sponsorship or schedule follow-up reporting.
