The Fremont City Council on April 14 approved a contract award to HPI for turbine and generator inspection (a major overhaul) for Unit 7 at the Lon D. Wright Generating Station in the amount of $591,604.64.
Utility Manager Jeff Shanahan told the council the plant schedules a major overhaul approximately every 40,000 operating hours and that Unit 7 is due. Staff conducted a formal bid opening and received four bids; HPI was the lowest responsible bidder. "We received four bids during that opening and HPI was the lowest bidder," Shanahan said. The work is expected to take place in fall 2026 and may span two fiscal years.
Council moved and seconded the contract approval; the motion passed 8–0.
What happens next: Staff will finalize the contract with HPI, schedule the inspection/overhaul for Unit 7, and return to council with any required procurement documentation or schedule adjustments.
