Thomaston cemetery trustees prioritize software upgrade, flag building repair questions in 2025 budget review

Thomaston — The Thomaston Village Cemetery Trustees on Jan. 13 reviewed budget line items for 2025, placing an early priority on replacing an inadequate cemetery database and leaving final decisions on building repairs for a follow-up meeting with town staff.
At the meeting, Sandy Moore compiled questions to review with Jodell at a Jan. 23 budget meeting. Trustees noted that allotted trust funds must be spent by June to pay for needed repairs to cemetery buildings but did not decide whether to repair or demolish the green building or how to proceed with repairs to the white building.
Trustees raised the cemetery's data software as a top budget priority. According to the minutes, Sue Christensen and Sandy Moore have been working with the existing system, which the trustees described as "inadequate and inefficient," and recommended funding a more comprehensive replacement in this year's budget.
Pete Lammert said he has 20 trees available and will check with Public Works to see whether crews can start digging holes for planting.
The trustees also asked for clarification about how the Cemetery Trust operates, who serves as trustees (appointments or terms), and how bank fees are charged against trust funds — items the group said require explanation from town staff.
A follow-up meeting to discuss the budget with Kara and Jodell is set for Jan. 23, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:03 p.m. after a motion from Ron Gamage, seconded by Rod Grindell; the minutes record the vote as 6–0 in favor. (The minutes list seven people as present; they do not specify which member did not register a vote.)
