New Castine Town Manager outlines first‑day steps; board reads formal appreciation for outgoing manager

At the Aug. 5 Castine Selectboard meeting new Town Manager Derik Goodine gave a brief report on his first full day on the job. Goodine said his new computer was set up, he met with employees and department heads, scheduled a meeting with FEMA and outgoing manager Shawn Blodgett for Aug. 7 at 10 a.m., and planned site visits to Fort Madison and the Town Dock gazebo. He told the board he will post regular office hours and provided his town email address (derik@castine.me.us).
Chair Gordon MacArthur read a formal appreciation statement on behalf of the Selectboard praising Mr. Blodgett’s five years of service, noting that he secured grants that helped restrain tax increases and developed planning and coordination that benefited town operations. The statement says Blodgett will continue as the town’s Code Enforcement Officer and that the board and community appreciate his ongoing contributions.
The board also received several community requests and updates during the meeting, including a resident’s request to post a temporary sign thanking volunteer firefighters and a note that the 15‑minute parking sign in front of Emerson Hall needs replacement. The meeting adjourned at 4:34 PM.
