Waverly council introduces parking changes and hears infrastructure updates; lift station to go live in August

In committee reports Angel (Public Service) reported that the 7th Street lift station is scheduled to go live on Aug. 20. Angel also raised a code-enforcement concern about grass and weeds along sidewalks, noting the street department previously sprayed problem areas and suggesting the council consider options to address remaining overgrowth this season.
The council heard brief administrative permit reports from Public Safety: a sign permit and associated $50 fee and a fence permit with a $35 fee were recorded during the permit reporting period.
During the mayor's announcements the Waverly Garden Club fundraiser (sale of mums; orders due by Friday) and volunteer watering by the Recovery Council were highlighted; storage for seasonal planters was noted as a logistics item to address.
What happens next: Ordinances 70-2024 and 71-2024 will return for second and third readings as required by law. The public-service committee and street department will follow up on the lift station activation and sidewalk vegetation cleanup.
