The Waterloo Local Board of Education approved a suite of personnel, policy and financial items at its regular meeting.
Personnel actions: the board approved a step adjustment for Michael (effective Aug. 22, 2025), accepted the resignation of Elizabeth Hayes from her Destination Imagination supplemental role, and accepted the retirement of Tina Spellelman effective Nov. 1 after 33 years of district service. Colleagues and board members publicly recognized Spellelman’s long tenure before the motion was approved by roll call.
Contracts and staffing: the board authorized substitute contracts for the 2025–26 school year and issued supplemental coaching and extracurricular contracts contingent on compliance with Ohio Board of Education eligibility rules. The board also approved several memoranda of understanding with partner districts and Summit County for student services and safety support.
Policies, fees and nutrition: the board reviewed and approved revisions to Title IX‑related employee and student procedures, citing recent guidance from the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education. The board approved a slate of new and revised student policies (open enrollment, attendance, promotion/retention, discipline, electronic devices, extracurriculars, and others). The board approved the district’s listed school fees for 2025–26 and adjusted adult meal prices (adult breakfast to $2.95; adult lunch as listed by nutrition staff), with board members noting every student receives free breakfast and lunch under the district program.
Contracts and finance: the board approved a multi‑year contract with Spark (Spark Cyber) for 2025–28; one member abstained and disclosed a family connection on the financial side of Spark for transparency. Donation: the board accepted a $1,500 donation from the Waterloo PTO to support the sixth‑grade field trip to Camp Fitch.
