He described recent legislative changes: fixed-sum levies counting toward the 20-mill floor, a cap on inflationary increases at 8.5% for reassessments, and changes that could reduce inside millage, creating greater complexity for revenue forecasts. He also noted an active effort to place a potential constitutional amendment before voters that could abolish property taxes.
Board members urged families to contact legislators and stressed the practical effects of proposed policy changes on local schools. In explaining the magnitude of state aid, Mr. Davis said, "I would say it's about $300 per student" from the state — a figure board members used to illustrate how heavily Indian Hill relies on local property-tax revenue.
The board also approved the treasurer's report, which included authorization to contract for roof replacement services for portions of Indian Hill High School (Embus Roofing) to be performed over the summer (materials to move in the week of Memorial Day), technology renewals including a cybersecurity solution and 720 student Chromebooks, and acceptance of a $1,000 donation from Tamara and Eric Cantor for the boys basketball program.
A motion to adopt the fiscal year 2027 tax budget passed by roll-call vote with all members recorded as voting yes. Board leaders said they will hold work sessions and public input meetings in the coming weeks and months on district priorities and on the superintendent search; Dr. Stewart will serve as interim superintendent while the board organizes public participation in the hiring process.
