Crosby ISD posts mixed preliminary STAAR and EOC results; district highlights gains in English and biology

Preliminary STAAR and EOC data show gains in several grades and subjects — English I (+12%), English II (+11%), biology (meets +7%, masters +16%) and 7th‑grade math (+15% meets) — alongside declines in some elementary and 8th‑grade math areas; 5th and 8th grade science cut scores were not yet released.
District staff presented preliminary STAAR and end‑of‑course results for 3rd–8th grades and EOC courses. Presenters said reading and ELA areas generally improved at the meets level, with strong gains in English I (12 percent increase) and English II (11 percent increase). Biology showed a 7 percentage‑point gain at the meets level and a 16 percentage‑point gain at masters.
Math results were mixed: grade 3 math remained steady; grades 4 and 5 saw declines at the meets and masters levels; grade 6 and grade 7 math saw increases (7th grade meets +15 percent), while grade 8 math declined. Staff noted the state has not yet released cut scores for 5th‑ and 8th‑grade science, so full results in those grades are pending.
Trustees and staff discussed priorities for 2026‑27 including increasing instructional leadership presence in classrooms, targeted small‑group instruction, intervention strategies and professional development to raise rigor and support mastery growth.
