Pleasant View committee finalizes logistics for Founders Day events

Pleasant View’s Founders Day committee met to finalize schedules, volunteer assignments and safety logistics for the weekend-long celebration, with the committee chair, Dave, leading the discussion.

The meeting laid out the event timetable: a pickleball tournament beginning Monday with public-works matches at 3:00 p.m., division play at 4:00 p.m., and a council match with North Ogden at 7:30 p.m.; parade activities will start at 10:00 a.m. and water slides and other park activities will follow after the parade. "We're gonna be starting the pickleball tournament," a committee member said as the group reviewed court maintenance and signage plans.

The committee confirmed volunteer coverage for multiple events. Dave asked members to finalize volunteers for parade banners, breakfast, the salmon bake and the children's activities; Cindy agreed to handle signage and to help coordinate volunteer check-in. Organizers reported 338 runners signed up for the fun run so far, including youth participants, with expectations the number could approach 400.

Logistics for the salmon bake and food service were a major item. One committee member said the supplier’s total invoice for the salmon bake and related supplies was $15,006.45 and that the list was not itemized. "The total cost is $15,006.45," the member said; committee members asked that the order be reviewed and that pickup and serving schedules be confirmed. The group also discussed hot-dog buns, beverage pickups and the need to keep food off the ground in line with health-department guidance.

Safety and traffic were recurring concerns. Organizers urged attendees to use Weaver High parking to ease congestion near the fireworks site and discussed routing and potential road closures for the parade. A committee member noted crews had lowered manholes on Weber High Drive — a sign that milling or resurfacing may be planned — and said the committee would monitor this work because it could affect the running route.

Community programming and partners were confirmed. The Heritage kickoff will feature the mayor’s remarks at about 6:00 p.m., cake and a grand marshal; the Sons of the American Revolution (coordinated by Doug McGregor) requested a presentation booth and parking by the car show; and the band and stage plans were set, with a generator as a backup for sound due to past reliability problems at Barker Park.

Permits and vendor coordination were left as action items. Committee members said Steve (a staff or volunteer contact) would complete required health-department permits for the salmon bake and the breakfast, and the group agreed to follow up via email on Monday to confirm that paperwork and any itemized food ordering information had been received.

As the meeting wound down, organizers reviewed sales plans for event merchandise and T-shirts, trash and porta‑potty placements, and volunteer staging and traffic-control needs. A motion to close the meeting was moved, seconded and carried; Dave adjourned the meeting.

Next steps: members will confirm itemized food orders and permits by email, finalize volunteer rosters, and issue a final communications packet with parking and parade maps before Founders Day.
