Westwood EAC sets spring clean-up and tree-planting support, urges better coordination on town environmental projects

The Borough of Westwood Environmental Advisory Committee scheduled a series of spring environmental activities and sought better intergroup coordination after members learned of unrelated projects in local parks.
Council liaison Robert Bicocchi reported the Shade Tree Committee plans to plant 20 trees along Harding Avenue on April 18 and that Bergen County will run "United We Serve," a volunteer week from April 18–26. The WEAC selected April 25 as its townwide clean-up date; Bicocchi will coordinate with Rick Woods for equipment and supplies, and Gary Dragona will prepare outreach materials.
The committee voted to purchase 20 one‑pound jars of honey to give away to build awareness of the beehive project. Chair Norel Blundo will contact Lisa Skogland to determine pricing, delivery, and labeling for the jars.
Blundo also highlighted a Pascack Press article describing a scout project to build and install bat boxes at Westvale Park and Pascack Brook Park, and said the WEAC is often "out of the loop" on environmental projects. Members asked the committee to consider its role as a Borough resource and requested Robert Bicocchi raise the need for better coordination with Borough Council.
The meeting ended at 8:22 p.m. with follow-up assignments for logistics and improved communication between the WEAC and other Borough groups.
