Vanlue council adopts 2026 temporary appropriations, approves water-plant repairs and CD rollover

Vanlue Village Council voted unanimously Nov. 17 to adopt Ordinance 2025-13, the village’s 2026 temporary appropriations, and approved several immediate finance and water-infrastructure actions.
The ordinance was approved on a motion by Councilmember Becky Nye and seconded by Councilmember Melissa Caudill; the vote was recorded as 6-0. Council also voted 6-0 to roll over two maturing certificates of deposit, each for $100,000, and to direct staff to seek the best available interest rates. Fiscal Officer Melinda Boyd noted the village has historically renewed the CDs and outlined current rate changes: prior CD yields were about 3.84% (APY ~3.9%) and recent rates quoted were about 2.75% (APY ~2.722%).
Council approved a $4,234 payment to Pelton Environmental for a replacement motor at the water plant (motion by Jeri Wenger; second by Bridget Shepherd) and separately authorized Gorman Raup to repair a pump for $6,580 (motion by Jeri Wenger; second by Ann Burrell). Administrator Joshua Riegle reported the Pelton motor had arrived and been moved to the water plant.
The council approved payment of expenses for the meeting period on a motion by Amy Wiseley seconded by Melissa Caudill; that motion passed with Councilmember Jeri Wenger recorded as abstaining due to a conflict of interest.
Fiscal Officer Melinda Boyd told the council that the completed annual audit required accounting adjustments: a $15,779 decrease to the general fund and a corresponding $15,779 increase to the capital fund, caused by misposted income-tax receipts. She said final budget numbers still must be entered into the village UAN accounting system.
Other logistics discussed included scheduling CorrPro to remove cathodic protection at the water plant (Teresa, scheduler, to set a December date), and the fiscal officer’s reminder that residents interested in council appointment should attend the January meeting. The council adjourned at 8:10 p.m.; its next meeting is scheduled for Dec. 15, 2025 at 7 p.m., with a council potluck at 6 p.m.
