The Village of Vanlue council handled organizational and financial business at its Jan. 27, 2025 regular meeting, electing a council president, approving routine and non-recurring expenditures (with stated abstentions for payroll conflicts) and adopting a records policy tied to Ohio law.
Nominations for Council President were Melissa Caudill and Jeri Wenger. A motion to accept the Council President nomination was moved by Becky Nye and seconded by Bridget Shepherd; the minutes record the motion as passing 5–1. The minutes do not list individual yes/no roll-call votes for that motion.
Council approved the meeting agenda on a motion by Amy Wiseley, seconded by Jeri Wenger. The minutes record approval of recurring expenditures; Becky Nye and Jeri Wenger abstained from the recurring-expenditures vote because of payroll conflicts. Non-recurring December bills were approved (motion by Melissa Caudill, seconded by Amy Wiseley) with Becky Nye abstaining due to a conflict of interest. The financial documents, bank reconciliation and statements were accepted on a motion by Jeri Wenger, seconded by Melissa Caudill.
Council adopted a Records policy (motion by Jeri Wenger, seconded by Bridget Shepherd) and agreed to form a Records Commission in accordance with Ohio Revised Code §149.39. The Fiscal Officer, Melinda Boyd, told council she prefers not to serve on the commission because of family commitments; the minutes record that an alternate public member (Mindy) agreed to participate and that Records Commission meetings will be scheduled every six months. The council approved the records policy 5–0.
The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn by Melissa Caudill, seconded by Amy Wiseley; the meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m.
The minutes also record a letter from Sheriff Cortez presenting new patrol-contract rates effective Jan. 1, 2025 (the difference noted in materials was $2.32); council packet materials and year-end 2024 financials were made available to the public for review at the town hall.
