The Vanlue Village Council conducted routine business at its July 22 meeting, approving minutes, accepting financial reports and scheduling upcoming events.
Procedural votes recorded in the minutes include the following: Jeri Wenger moved and Becky Nye seconded approval of the June 24, 2024 minutes (passed 6-0). Council accepted the meeting agenda by motion of Jeri Wenger, seconded by Ann Burrell (passed 6-0). Recurring expenditures were approved with abstentions noted: Jeri Wenger abstained on a Robert Wenger payroll item and Becky Nye abstained on a John Nye payroll item; the motion (moved by Ann Burrell, seconded by Bridget Shepherd) passed with four yes votes and two abstentions. Bridget Shepherd moved, and Amy Wiseley seconded, payment of non-recurring bills; Becky Nye and Jeri Wenger again abstained on that vote and the motion passed 4-0. The council unanimously accepted financial documents, bank reconciliations and fund summaries on a motion by Melissa Caudill, seconded by Amy Wiseley (passed 6-0).
During committee reports, finance co-chairs Becky Nye and Melissa Caudill noted ongoing Facebook outreach. The minutes record that John Filkins sent letters to the State Auditor alleging fraud involving Becky Nye; the minutes also note that Becky Nye forwarded the meeting minutes to the auditor. The minutes do not record any formal council action in response to the auditor correspondence during the July 22 meeting.
VCO Sharon May announced the Vanlue Fest schedule (July 25–27), the Veterans Parkway chicken BBQ on Sept. 21, trick-or-treat on Oct. 24 or 31, Christmas in the Park on Dec. 1 and village caroling on Dec. 22.
Fiscal Officer Melinda Boyd (the record also refers to 'Mindy Boyd' in meeting attendance) noted staff progress on required fraud training and circulated a notice about a public Budget Commission meeting on Aug. 12, 2024 at Riverbend Park Lodge concerning Local Government Funds under Ohio Revised Code 5747.53.
Mayor Robert Wells said he will appoint an 8–10 person committee for Sourcewell (the minutes do not define Sourcewell’s role or provide committee membership). The meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m. on a motion by Melissa Caudill, seconded by Jeri Wenger (passed 6-0).
