The Village of North Baltimore council unanimously approved hiring Robert Thomas as a part-time police officer at a special meeting on Feb. 4, 2025. Mr. Soltis moved to hire Thomas as a part-time officer effective Feb. 9, 2025; Ms. Beaupry seconded the motion and the six council members present voted to approve.
The motion followed a report that Robert Miller could not accept a full-time position at this time. The transcript records that Devin Lafferty indicated interest in a part-time officer role; the village's police chief (identified in the record as Chief Lafferty) and Mayor Aaron Patterson said they will interview the potential candidate to follow up on staffing needs.
Council members did not record additional debate in the transcript. The hiring motion specified the start date for Thomas (Feb. 9, 2025) and passed unanimously. The mayor and police chief will conduct further interviews as the village continues to address staffing for its police force.
The council adjourned the special meeting after completing the hiring and other agenda items.
