Thomaston trustees approve MOCA dues direction, weigh options for 44 avenue sign posts

The Thomaston Cemetery Board of Trustees directed that Maine Old Cemetery Association membership dues be paid using the town calendar year and tasked Trustee Ryan Fitzpatrick with coordinating the payment and confirming an email contact at the town office.
The action came during the board’s Aug. 28 meeting at the Thomaston Municipal Building. The motion directing dues on a calendar-year basis passed 6-0, according to meeting minutes. Fitzpatrick said he would check with Jodell in the Town Office to obtain a MOCA membership email address and confirm the payment process.
The trustees also reviewed procurement options for 44 avenue sign posts after a delayed closing blamed on staff miscommunication and turnover. Fitzpatrick presented two written quotes from Patrick Connor: $1,120 for twenty-four painted 4” x 4” x 8’ posts with painted routered lettering, and $670 for WeatherShield 5/4” x 6” x 8’ pressure-treated decking boards to serve as placards that would be affixed to separately purchased posts. The board recorded the quotes and asked Fitzpatrick to obtain a mock-up and a more detailed itemization that breaks out routered lettering and the cost to repair the existing cemetery sign at the maintenance building.
Trustees Pete Lammert and Rod Grindell volunteered to inspect posts at Lowe’s to select quality material and to pick up and deliver them directly to the prison (as noted in the minutes). Fitzpatrick also reported receiving a separate quote of $233.96 from Adventure Advertising to repair or replace the maintenance-building cemetery sign.
The board approved the procedural motions recorded in the minutes, including acceptance of the July 24, 2025 minutes (recorded 5-1). The board set follow-ups for staff to return with the requested mock-up, detailed costs for routered lettering and caps for post tops as an alternate to tapered tops, and confirmation about whether last year’s budget surplus rolled into the current year’s budget.
The trustees scheduled their next regular meeting for Sept. 25, 2025 at 4 p.m. and adjourned at 5:29 p.m.
