Trenton council raises Oakland Cemetery 'dirt fee' to $75 and passes two ordinances on first reading

"We have charged $25.00 and we have noticed that we need to raise our fee to $75.00," Burriss said. Alderwoman Jones moved to increase the fee; Alderman Harper seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
The fee change was the most substantive budget-related item on the agenda. The council did not record a roll-call tally for the dirt-fee motion; minutes state the motion "carried by voice vote." The adjustment applies to Oakland Cemetery burials and will take effect under city fee schedules once administrative steps are completed.
On ordinances, Alderman Graves introduced Ordinance #351 to amend the city code by adopting state rulemaking standards to the 2018 edition of the International Residential Code as it applies to energy conservation. Alderwoman Jones seconded. The council recorded a roll-call vote: Alderman Graves — yes; Alderman Wade — yes; Alderman Harper — yes; Alderwoman Jones — yes; Alderwoman Elam — yes. The measure passed first reading.
Alderwoman Elam moved, and Alderman Harper seconded, first reading of Ordinance #352 to amend Chapter 1, Section 17-105 of the Trenton Municipal Code concerning trash containers. The same five members voted yes on the first reading.
The meeting also included routine commission and staff reports and personnel notes. Chief Cusson of the Police Department and council members congratulated Eric Horne on his promotion to investigator. The council adjourned at 6:55 p.m.; Mayor Burriss signed the minutes and Leigh Reynolds, city recorder, attested them.
