Newry selectpersons approve routine minutes, renew four liquor licenses and sign two tree-growth penalty supplements

At its Nov. 26 meeting the Newry selectpersons approved the Nov. 12 minutes, renewed four liquor licenses unanimously, signed supplemental paperwork for two tree-growth removal penalties, and approved several personnel and administrative housekeeping motions; a vote to renew Bethel Chamber membership passed 2–1 per the minutes.
The Newry selectpersons completed a series of routine approvals on Nov. 26, including unanimous approval of the Nov. 12 meeting minutes and the signing of warrants.
Selectperson Mandy Berry moved to renew four liquor licenses — Barker Mountain Lodge, The Peaks Lodge, Shipyard Brewhaus II and Jordan Auxiliary — and Selectperson Virgil Conkright seconded; the renewals passed by unanimous vote. Berry also moved and Conkright seconded to sign supplemental paperwork for two tree-growth removal penalties (R13-027 and R13-027-C); that motion passed unanimously.
On a separate membership motion, Selectperson Gary Wight moved to renew the town’s membership in the Bethel Chamber for another year; Selectperson Berry seconded and the minutes record the motion passing with two in favor and one opposed. The minutes do not record which individual voted against the motion.
Other approved housekeeping items included continuing Fire Department stipend payments under current practice while notifying the department that future payments will be processed fiscally, and allowing staff to use the day after Thanksgiving as a floating holiday through the end of February pending a handbook update. The board adjourned at 9:53 a.m. and scheduled its next meeting for Dec. 3, 2024.
Why it matters: These votes enact routine town business that keep licensing, tax-penalty processing and personnel policies current and ensure ARPA and other reporting obligations proceed on schedule.
