Uniontown council adopts camping ban and ratifies multiple grant submissions

In a separate action, the council designated Mayor Thomas Gerke and City Clerk Shannon Wood as the officials authorized to execute documents for a Commonwealth Financing Authority Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant application for Marshall Park phase two, with a requested amount of $212,500. The meeting included a slate of routine approvals: acceptance of the Treasurer's report for May and authorization to pay May invoices across city funds (e.g., General Fund $204,897.87; Sewer Fund $145,506.10); purchases such as degreaser for Public Works ($658.54), street-sweeper brooms ($6,272.72), Grant Street Basketball League shirts ($4,185.50); authorization to pave city alleys and Corporate Crossing with in-house personnel (materials not to exceed $27,000); approval to pave a portion of the Sheepskin Trail (not to exceed $9,000); sale of the police department's 2010 Jeep Wrangler (VIN transcribed in the record); and authorizations for public events at Story/Storey Square through the summer and fall. The council also approved transfer of operating accounts from First National Bank to United Bank and designated municipal signatories.
Council accepted the resignation of Captain David Rutter from the Uniontown Police Department, effective June 4, 2026, approved transfer of duty weapon serial NLK6515 to Rutter, and authorized payment of compensated absences to him totaling $17,730.54. Council members and department chiefs marked Rutter's retirement and thanked him for more than 30 years of service.
