Newry selectpersons renew liquor licenses, approve event permit and agree to cover PFML employee share

The board also approved the Maine Summer Adventure Race passing through Newry after the organizers agreed to add the town to their insurance, a motion made by Selectman Virgil Conkright and seconded by Selectman Mandy Berry. The selectpersons approved issuing an RFQ/RFP for hazard mitigation work associated with the Sunday River area after a motion by Selectman Mandy Berry and a second from Selectman Virgil Conkright; that vote was unanimous.
On employee benefits, Selectman Mandy Berry moved that the town pay the 0.5% employee portion of the state-mandated Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) on employees' behalf, with an annual review; Selectman Gary Wight seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board did not set additional details in the minutes beyond approving the payment and the intent to review it yearly.
Other routine approvals included adopting a six-month meeting schedule (meetings at 9 a.m., times subject to change), authorizing staff holiday lunch expenses and approving the RFQ for hazard mitigation.
