Painesville City Council completed its organizational business on Jan. 5, swearing in three At-Large members and electing leadership for the next two years.
Clerk of Council Samantha Danielson administered oaths as Law Director Jim Lyons swore in Derrick Abney (term effective Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2029), Lori DiNallo (effective Jan. 2, 2026–Dec. 31, 2029) and Jim Fodor (effective Jan. 3, 2026–Dec. 31, 2029). Bishop Mirbel held the Bible during the ceremonies.
Mrs. Christine Shoop nominated Jim Fodor for President of Council; after a motion to close nominations and a roll-call vote, the council elected Fodor 7-0 to a two-year term (Jan. 5, 2026–Dec. 31, 2027). Following congratulations, President Fodor called for nominations for Vice-President. Mrs. Shoop nominated Nick Augustine; nominations were closed and Augustine was elected 7-0 to a two-year term (Jan. 5, 2026–Dec. 31, 2027).
The proceedings were procedural and unanimous: council approved the meeting agenda and the Dec. 15, 2025 minutes by voice vote earlier in the evening.
The meeting then transitioned from organizational business into the regular council agenda.
