Beachwood City Council on Aug. 20 approved a package of administrative measures including a software purchase for the building department and two solid‑waste/recycling contracts, and referred a rezoning request to the Planning & Zoning Commission.
Councilmember Renick introduced a resolution to authorize permit, license and code‑enforcement software from Camino Technologies, saying the system will provide an online portal so residents and contractors can apply for permits, pay fees, request inspections and track project status. After Renick’s presentation council moved and adopted the resolution as an urgent measure.
On solid‑waste contracts, Public Works reported that Kimbell Company was the lowest and best bidder for solid waste disposal (first‑year price $46.69 per ton with scheduled option‑year increases) and Waste Management of Ohio was the lowest bidder for recycling processing ($74.50 per ton). Council adopted resolutions authorizing agreements with Waste Management and Kimbell.
Council also approved an ordinance amending 2024 appropriations (largely to cover pool concession staffing, increased non‑wage food costs and several fund adjustments), declared certain city vehicles surplus and authorized their sale on GovDeals, and referred a rezoning request for 2555 and 2561 Edgewood Drive to the Planning & Zoning Commission for review (first reading and referral were approved; final rezoning would require subsequent public hearings and readings).
All measures were adopted by roll call during the special meeting. Council did not waive required procedures for the rezoning; staff advised the item will be scheduled before the Planning & Zoning Commission at the end of September and will return to council for subsequent readings and a public hearing.
