At the Sept. 3 Beachwood City Council meeting, the mayor addressed a recent adjustment by Fitch Ratings and stressed that the change was driven by updated rating criteria rather than weakening city finances.
The mayor said Fitch “recently adjusted Beechwood's bond rating” and added the modification “does not reflect the decline in our City's financial health,” calling it the result of the ratings agency’s updated criteria. He also noted Moody’s has maintained a AAA rating for Beachwood for more than two decades.
Finance Director (Mr. Heizer) provided additional context, saying the Fitch decision was model-driven and identified population sensitivity and debt timing as factors; he noted the city had paid off some debt early and was not seeking any tax increases. He said the 2023 audit should be released this week with only a verbal comment expected about some old assets.
The mayor encouraged residents to complete a residential satisfaction survey available online through Sept. 30, saying the survey takes about 10 minutes and helps the administration understand priorities.
No formal budget or tax changes were proposed or adopted during the meeting.
