Glassport council hears of two collapsed sewer lines; authorizes equipment sales

Glassport Borough Council was told Nov. 19 that ongoing sewer televising has revealed two fully collapsed sewer lines and that the borough is awaiting recommendations from its engineer on how to proceed.
Council Vice President Mark Stecak, who leads public works, said crews are continuing the televising work and that the borough will defer to the engineer’s recommended repair approach. Council did not take a repair vote at the meeting; members said they will act after receiving the engineer’s guidance.
Toward managing borough assets, Council approved two motions to advertise surplus equipment for sale. On a motion by Dave Kowalski, seconded by Meghan DeVerse, members voted unanimously to advertise the sale of a 2000 bucket truck. On a motion by DeVerse, seconded by Angelo Norelli, council voted unanimously to advertise the sale of a scissor lift.
The equipment-sale motions were routine, recorded with roll-call tallies of Yes 6, No 0, Absent 1 for each motion. Council members said the sales are part of normal fleet management and will help offset future replacement or repair costs.
No timetable for repairs to the collapsed lines was provided at the meeting; the borough will publish next steps once the engineer’s recommendations are received.
