Parkway Local board approves 2025–26 spending plan, tuition rate, communications contract and personnel items

The Parkway Local Board of Education on Sept. 10 approved the district's 2025–26 permanent appropriations and a slate of consent items covering staffing, contracts and student travel.
At a regular board meeting held in the Community Room, Vice‑President Amanda Peel and three other board members voted 4–0 to adopt the permanent appropriations for the coming school year, a procedural step that authorizes district spending under Ohio law. Treasurer Debra Pierce’s report and payment of bills were approved as part of the treasurer's consent package.
The board established the district tuition rate for 2025–26 at $8,214.55 as determined by the Ohio Department of Education. The figure applies to students whose tuition status is not otherwise specified by district policy or interdistrict agreements.
Superintendent Laura Young presented a package of personnel and operational consent items that the board approved on a single motion. That package included one‑year aide contracts for Andrea Eggleston and Abbigail Fortkamp; acceptance of the resignation of cafeteria worker Kathryn Vonderau, effective Aug. 18, 2025; and the district’s list of substitute teachers provided by the Mercer County Educational Service Center.
The board approved two overnight student field trips: an FFA trip to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Oct. 27–31, 2025, expected to include about 15 students, and an 8th‑grade trip to Washington, D.C., Oct. 13–16, 2025, expected to include about 65 students. Mr. Alan Post and Mr. Jordan Dues were listed as the staff contacts for the FFA trip; Mr. Matt Triplett was listed for the Washington, D.C., trip.
The board also approved a communications consulting contract with Allerton Hill Communications, effective at the start of the 2025–26 school year, at a rate not to exceed $5,000 per month. The meeting minutes list the contract as part of the superintendent consent items; details and contract documents were included with the supplemental materials.
Service agreements with the Montgomery County Educational Service Center for hearing and vision services for July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026 were approved, and the board authorized two substitute ASL interpreters, Jodi Pierstorff and Stephanie Frey, at a rate of $45 per hour on an as‑needed basis.
The board approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Parkway Local School District Board of Education and the Parkway Education Association; the minutes note the MOU was included as an attachment to the supplemental minutes. The board also approved multiple supplemental coaching appointments for the 2025–26 school year, including Barry Peel III as girls varsity bowling head coach and several softball and middle school coaches.
Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code Section 121.22, the board adjourned to executive session to discuss appointment, evaluation and employment of personnel at 6:24 p.m. and returned to regular session at 7:30 p.m. The meeting then was adjourned. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
