The agreement, approved after a motion by Commissioner Damon Hoyte and seconded by Commissioner Gerald Douglas, spells out responsibilities the county will assume for the project’s landscaping and maintenance, including mowing, pruning, herbicide application, litter removal and repair of installed sidewalks and pavers. The GDOT documents note the maintenance authorization covers the right-of-way segment from milepost 4.76 to 5.56 and establishes a 50-year term for the maintenance arrangement unless terminated earlier by the department or the county.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told the board staff has been coordinating with GDOT district officials as the project moves toward construction. GDOT correspondence included a detailed maintenance plan and contact instructions for the department’s project manager, Tahirah Slaughter, and was signed by Kimberly W. Nesbitt, State Program Delivery Administrator.
Chairman Charles Coffey said the board received the maintenance agreement and approved execution so GDOT can route the document for state signatures and proceed with project scheduling. The motion to approve passed unanimously.
