School officials say Martin County Career Technical Center remains on track for August opening

Martin County Schools staff provided a project update on the Career Technical Center during the Feb. 10 meeting of the Board of Commissioners, saying construction and specialized-fit work is proceeding and staff remain on target for an August 2021 opening.
Superintendent Dr. David Fonseca and staff members (Jim Guard, Hank Edwards, Doug Bullock) described recent contractor meetings that reviewed roofing, HVAC, sprinklers, septic, specialized steel shipments for the main entrance and lab areas, and the need to reboot work on the parking lot due to weather. Staff also discussed electrical boxes and wiring required for advanced manufacturing, metal fabrication and health sciences classrooms. Furniture selection and community input on the facility name were underway.
Mr. Guard said the school staff expected the facility to be ready for students in August 2021 and planned to provide a complete update to the school board in March. Commissioners thanked the school representatives for the update. No board action was required.
