Martin County approves building reuse grant contracts to support Jay Group investment in Robersonville

Martin County commissioners approved April 14 the execution of a Building Reuse Grant contract and related documents to support The Jay Group’s planned purchase and renovation of a Robersonville property.
County staff and Mid-East Commission representatives said Governor Roy Cooper’s Building Reuse award of $130,000 will support The Jay Group’s planned $2.825 million investment and an expected creation of 22 full-time jobs. Mid-East Commission will administer and assist with grant requirements; its professional fees were accepted as the county’s 5% local match for the grant.
President/CEO Jason Semple and Mid-East Commissioner Jack Pendergragh told the board the Department of Commerce issued a contract on April 5 and county attorney review recommended executing the grant contract along with a deed of trust and promissory note to secure the county’s and state’s interests. The board approved executing the Building Reuse Grant Program Contract, the Mid-East Commission Grant Fee Contract, and the deed of trust and promissory note by unanimous vote (5-0).
Commissioners noted the project’s average projected wage of about $38,913 exceeds the county’s average wage cited in the meeting (about $32,137).
