Quincy council appoints Paul Brown to vacant seat and swears him in

Paul Brown was appointed to the Village of Quincy council and sworn in during the Oct. 1 meeting, filling the unexpired term of Morgan Collier.
Mayor Daniel Robinson opened the meeting and council members approved the appointment after Brown, who had publicly posted his interest on a park sign and attended recent meetings, expressed willingness to serve. John Hickman moved to appoint Brown and Robert Ward seconded; the verbal vote was John Hickman Aye, Robert Ward Aye, Dawn Smith Aye, Sheryl Hatfield Aye, and Millard Shaffer Aye. Solicitor Steve Fansler administered the oath of office.
The appointment followed routine consent items earlier in the session and was recorded in the meeting minutes. With Brown’s addition, council resumes five seated members plus the mayor. The council did not hold a separate election for the seat because Brown was the only candidate to indicate interest on the public posting.
The council is scheduled to meet next on Oct. 15, 2024, at the Quincy Community Building.
